Stepping Into Spring with WUTC

Dear WUTC Community,

Spring is here, and with it comes a fresh season of music, stories, and connection on WUTC.

Our spring pledge drive begins next Thursday, and your support will help keep this station local, independent, and thriving. Every contribution makes a difference in bringing thoughtful programming and community voices to Chattanooga.

Thanks for listening, for showing up, and for being part of what makes WUTC special.

Their Journey, Their Gift

The Govans honor their UTC experience by supporting students and strengthening programs across campus.

Rick ('69) arrived at the University of Chattanooga after a campus visit arranged by his Sewanee Military Academy headmaster. He quickly immersed himself in student life--living in Stadium dorm, pledging Kappa Sigma, acting in plays, and co-hosting a campus radio show. Financial aid and a job and WFLI radio helped fund his education.

Lori ('93) was a nontraditional student who balanced full-time work with her studies after beginning at Chattanooga State. With encouragement from family, colleagues, and Rick, she returned to complete her degree--navigating a demanding schedule as a working adult.

Both recall a campus community deeply invested in their success, with faculty and staff who made lasting impressions through mentorship and support.

Rick built a 30-year career at Provident Life & Accident Insurance Company before leading laity development for the Episcopal Diocese of East Tennessee. Lori built her career in HR and communication and now serves as a director at Kenco Logistics.

Their shared gratitude led them to include UTC in their estate plans. Their gift supports scholarships for English majors, faculty excellence, athletics, and WUTC.

"The whole package--education, mentorship, friendships, and community--has shaped who we are," Rick says, "We are cheerful givers."

WUTC Presents: Fred Hersch Live at UTC

Join us for an evening with jazz piano legend Fred Hersch, with proceeds benefiting WUTC

A select member of jazz's piano pantheon, Fred Hersch is a pervasively influential creative force who has shaped the music's course over more than three decades as an improviser, composer, educator, bandleader, collaborator and recording artist. He has been proclaimed "the most arrestingly innovative pianist in jazz over the last decade" by Vanity Fair, "an elegant force of musical invention" by The L.A. Times, and "a living legend" by The New Yorker.

All ticket proceeds support WUTC. You can purchase tickets here.

This concert was made possible by a donation from Ken and Nancy Dryden. Ken Dryden served as WUTC’s development director for more than 25 years before retiring in 2015. Ken continues to host and produce Timeless Jazz, drawing from his extensive jazz library, which he began building in 1972.
