Thank You, Richard Winham

After 38 years on the WUTC airwaves, our beloved host Richard Winham is hanging up his headphones.

Folks, this one isn’t easy to announce.

Our colleague, mentor, and friend—your WUTC host and producer for nearly four decades—Richard Winham has announced his plans to retire at the end of June. It’s a well-earned next chapter, and though it’s hard to say goodbye, we’re wishing him a joyful and adventurous retirement.

Richard has been a mentor, tastemaker, and tireless supporter of Chattanooga’s music and arts scene since 1987. He even hosted the first original music show broadcast from our studios. Since then, he’s interviewed hundreds of musicians, artists, and writers, and hosted thousands of hours of music programming.

To celebrate his incredible legacy, we’re inviting the entire community to Thank You, Richard Winham, a special WUTC benefit concert on Sunday, June 22, at Barrelhouse Ballroom in downtown Chattanooga.

From 1–5 p.m., join us for an all-ages, family-friendly event featuring some of Richard’s favorite local artists, including headliners The New Quintet, Randy Steele and the High Cold Wind. You'll also hear from Wayne White and Username Password, Jhett Black, Rick Rushing, Alex The Band, Danimal, BEMI, and members of Call Me Spinster and Strung Like A Horse—plus more surprises to come!

Tickets are on sale now. You can purchase them here.

Upgrade to the Soundcheck Circle for an exclusive pre-show meet-and-greet at noon with Richard, some of the artists, and WUTC staff, along with drinks, light bites, and a free limited-edition Thank You, Richard Winham concert poster.

Richard's retirement marks the end of an era for WUTC, but it's also a moment to come together and keep his legacy alive through music and community. All proceeds from this show will go toward continuing the independent music and cultural programming that Richard helped pioneer.

Please join us on Sunday, June 22nd to say Thank You, Richard Winham.

Thank You for Your Support!

We wrapped up a successful Spring Pledge Drive last month, and we're so grateful to everyone who stepped up to support WUTC. Especially with federal funding uncertain, your generosity means more than ever. To borrow a phrase from Richard, pledge drives are when we come tugging at your shirt sleeve, because we truly can’t do this without you.

If you’d like to keep the momentum going, consider becoming a monthly donor or simply sharing WUTC with a friend who loves music, stories, and community.

Thanks for being part of what makes WUTC possible.

Warmly,
The WUTC Team
